Vories Street in Imazu-cho is a hidden photography site that is known mostly among the locals only.

Vories buildings ( Imazu Vories Museum, Imazu Church and old Imazu Post Office building) are 3 well-preserved buildings that are great for photo-taking.

They were designed by the famous American architect William Merrell Vories and were built in the 1900s. They are located next to each other along the side of one street.

William Merrell Vories(1880~1964) came to Japan as an English teacher, but later became involved in the architectural design of many great western-style buildings throughout Japan.
His style, a blend of Japanese and Western is now a very popular photography place among Japanese. He designed widely more than 1,500 buildings that includes houses, schools, churches, department stores, hotels, offices and so on.
He was based in Omi and played an important role in other areas other than architecture.
His company handled a lot of businesses such as importation of building materials, sales of medication (present-day Menturm) etc.
He also set up the first Japanese establishment of the tuberculosis sanatorium "House of Omi medical treatment", and was involved in instructional activity, administration of the library, publication and so on.
