Kaizu Osaki

Kaizu district is located in Makino-cho, Takashima City in Shiga Prefecture.
It is at the north of Lake Biwa and is recognized as one of the 8 Views of Lake Biwa (Biwako Hakkei in Japanese).
It is a shore reef area jutting out from Lake Biwa.

Cherry Blossoms along the shore

The reef and the beautiful lake harmonize to create a splendid landscape.
As the area is deeper than the other parts of the lake, the color of the water is darker than in shallows.
You can enjoy the scenery differently depending on the part of the lake you visit.

Kaizu is also famous place for “Somei-Yoshi “ cherry blossom trees the surround the area.
The trees are located in the northern part of the lake, and the cherry blossoms bloom later than the ones in Kyoto.
A total of over 800 trees with wonderful cherry blossoms are chosen as “100 selections of Japanese Cherry Tree Famous Places.”
Every spring many Japanese visit Kaizu.

Lunch with a wonderful view

It has traditions of more than 400 years and the soy sauce has a rich local taste which no other place can produce.
In addition, you can visit Yoshida Syuzou, the local brewery of Omi.
The traditional-looking storefront with cedar ball is a good spot for photo-taking.
